The event organising process is drastically changing with new mobile apps that are being introduced, lately event planners have a challenge or a great opportunity of creating exciting, and attention-grabbing events compared to those of 20-years ago. We can all agree that technology has made life easier and event planning even more fun and quick. One of the major developments in the events industry is that the event is no longer experienced just in the physical space, participants and even non-participants can experience the event beyond the walls of the event, thanks to technology.

The launch of the first iPhone in 2007, that is when the power and influence of the smartphone and apps on events were recognised. More than changing the way in which participants experience events, technology has changed the planning process for organizers

Here’s how technology has made event planning and promoting easy:

4. Free wifi. Data charges are getting higher and higher in South Africa so wifi is now close to being a human basic need.

8. Attendees can register using an app rather than hand-written registration process

10. Photo booths and technology mean that all photos can be shared immediately

12. Live social media videos. People are always on their phones, being live on social media reach those who attended but are glued to their smart devices and those who could not

14. liSocial handles will be shared everywhere, whereas 20 years ago, the only thing that would be shared was business cards and landline telephone numbers

So, depending on how you look at it, the evolution of the events industry can either be a blessing or a curse, however, the grass is much greener now.
